I’m a people watcher. I look at people walking down the street and wonder who they are, what their life is like. I have always had this genuine interest in the story each individual has to tell. I think that’s why I love photography so much. I get to be a fly on the wall of your life and capture your story through my eyes. How awesome is that? And, I feel I always have a reason for why a shoot I feature is extra special to me… but if there was ever a shoot that was extra EXTRA special, it would probably be this one.
See, even before I was a full time photog it was rare I went anywhere without a camera, and kids have always been my favorite to photograph. So, when my dear friends had their first baby boy five and a half years ago, naturally I scooped up all camera equipment and headed straight to the hospital.
At that point in my life, I was a burnt out casting director feeling trapped in a business that was no longer the business I had fallen in love with. It was like an unhealthy relationship. I still loved parts of the job and the people I worked with, but the other parts were toxic… the job consumed every part of my being. I yearned for something else, but I had devoted 12 years of my life to this world. I was comfortable, but unhappy.
Little did I know that the images I took at the hospital that day, would be the images that would launch my business and get me my first paying clients. Five years and a LOT of life lessons later, and here I am. Feeling so fortunate and grateful for all the people who’ve supported me on this journey. Namely Deena (this gorgeous mama), she has been my cheerleader from the beginning and continues to be my #1 fan. In fact, I’m not sure I would have ever had the courage to leave my cushy job if it weren’t for her. So yeah, you can say this shoot was special to me, because of how truly special this family is to me.
We played. We laughed. We conquered…. A day in the life. Enjoy!
